I just got certified in Piloxing, and it’s not widely known right now, not in the way Zumba is.
Piloxing is described as ‘an exciting, new inter-disciplinary program that is attracting die hard followers including Hollywood celebrities and international stars.’ I hear it is all the rage there!
The workout mixes Pilates and boxing moves into a fat torching, muscle sculpting, core-centric interval workout, guaranteed to whip you into shape, using a class format that’s both fun and challenging. And boy, it works the core. I can feel it grinding away, trying to get my blocky core into shape.
Piloxing is the brainchild of Swedish dancer and celebrity trainer Viveca Jensen and the culmination of her mission to physically and mentally empower women through fitness. At the core of the workout is the principle that feminine is powerful and it aims for women to attain a sleek, sexy and powerful self-image.
The full hour of exercise blends the power, speed and agility of boxing with the beautiful sculpting and flexibility of Pilates. I love it! I might even love it more than Zumba…..!
In addition to Pilates and boxing movements, the exercise incorporates the use of weighted gloves which add to the workout by toning the arms and maximizing cardiovascular health. The gloves are a great addition – they really enhance my workout and make me concentrate on pulling up through my center and stabilising my core.
I am soooo chuffed (pleased) to be certified in this exercise – it will certainly enhance my workout and bring in new clients to the gyms I work at.
The one thing is that bugging me is that my British friends just can’t get their heads round the word ‘Piloxing’. You see, there is a word in the UK vernacular vocabulary that we use to describe someone who is a bit dumb…. it’s ‘pillock’ and I’ve had several comments like ‘is that boxing for pillocks’ and ‘what an unfortunate name!’. Well, I challenge them to come and try it and then they’ll see there are no pillocks in Piloxing!
